電郵、新聞線索、投稿、投訴、更正要求及相關資料,會按照處理相關事項、保存必要編輯或行政紀錄,以及履行法律義務所合理需要的時間保存。

正常的網站備份可能暫時包含網站資料中的個人資料,並會按照正常備份週期定期覆蓋或刪除。

6. 資料安全

我們採取與網站規模及所處理資料相適應的合理技術及組織措施,包括適當的存取控制、安全更新及必要的資料備份,以降低個人資料遭遺失、未經授權存取、使用、修改或披露的風險。

Privacy Statement

Vision Times NZ (visiontimes.co.nz, referred to below as the “Website”) respects the privacy of its readers and Website users.

This Privacy Statement explains what personal information the Website may collect, why and how it may be used, who may process it, how it may be retained, and your rights to request access to or correction of your personal information.

Personal information is handled in accordance with the applicable New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

1. Information We May Collect

Website Analytics

The Website uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand Website traffic and usage.

Information may include:

  • pages viewed and visit times;
  • traffic sources;
  • device type, browser and operating system;
  • approximate geographic location, such as country or city; and
  • randomly generated identifiers used to distinguish visitors and sessions.

GA4 does not provide the Website with your name or email address and does not store complete IP addresses.

The Website may also record aggregate article-view totals. These statistics are not used to identify individual readers.

Comments

If you use the commenting function, we may collect:

  • your name or display name;
  • email address;
  • website address, if voluntarily provided;
  • comment content;
  • IP address;
  • basic browser or device information; and
  • time of submission.

Your comment and the name you choose to display may appear publicly on the Website.

A name and email address are currently required to submit a comment. If required information is not provided, you may be unable to submit the comment. Providing a website address is voluntary.

Other comment information is primarily used for moderation, Website security, prevention of abuse and complaint handling.

Contacting us by email is voluntary.

If you choose to contact us, we may receive your name, email address, message, news tip, article submission, images, attachments, complaint or correction information, copyright information and other information you choose to provide.

If information reasonably necessary to deal with the relevant matter is not provided, we may be unable to respond to, verify or process your request.

Information Obtained from Other Sources

Where the Website obtains personal information about you from a source other than you, and the Privacy Act 2020 requires us to notify you, we will take reasonable steps to do so as soon as reasonably practicable unless a statutory exception applies.

2. How We Use Personal Information

We collect and use personal information only where there is a reasonable purpose for doing so.

Information may be used to:

  • operate and improve the Website;
  • understand Website traffic and content usage;
  • display and manage reader comments;
  • maintain Website security and prevent malicious activity;
  • deal with news tips, submissions and reader enquiries;
  • handle corrections, complaints, copyright concerns and harmful digital communications matters;
  • maintain reasonable editorial, administrative and security records; and
  • comply with applicable legal obligations.

Personal information will not be used for unrelated purposes unless the use is connected with the purpose for which it was collected, appropriately authorised or otherwise permitted by law.

The Website does not sell personal information.

3. Cookies and Browser Storage

The Website uses a limited number of cookies and browser-storage technologies.

Google Analytics may use _ga, _ga_XXXX or similar analytics cookies to distinguish visitors and sessions. These cookies may typically remain in a browser for up to approximately two years, although the actual period may vary depending on browser and service settings.

If you choose to have your comment details remembered, the Website may store relevant cookies in your browser for approximately one year.

Some Website display preferences may be stored only in your browser and are not automatically transmitted back to the Website server.

You can manage, restrict or delete cookies through your browser settings, although doing so may affect some Website functions.

4. Third-Party Services and Overseas Processing

The Website uses third-party service providers to assist with functions including Website analytics, hosting and content delivery, embedded media, email and data storage.

These include analytics services such as Google Analytics and third-party embedded content such as YouTube on some pages.

In providing these services, relevant providers may process IP addresses, network-request data or other technical information necessary to provide the relevant service.

Some service providers may process or store information outside New Zealand. Where the overseas-disclosure requirements of the Privacy Act 2020 apply, information will be handled in accordance with those requirements.

We do not publish internal technical configurations where doing so is unnecessary for privacy transparency and could affect Website security.

5. Retention

Personal information is retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for the lawful purpose for which it may be used.

GA4 user-level analytics data is currently configured to be retained for 14 months. Aggregated statistics that do not identify individuals may be retained for longer.

Comments may be retained while published and for as long as reasonably necessary for moderation, complaints, security or related purposes.

Emails, news tips, submissions, complaints, correction requests and related information may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to deal with the relevant matter, maintain necessary editorial or administrative records and comply with legal obligations.

Normal Website backups may temporarily contain personal information held by the Website and are periodically replaced or deleted through the normal backup cycle.

6. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards appropriate to the nature and scale of the Website and the information it handles, including appropriate access controls, security updates and necessary data backups.

For Website security, prevention of abuse and technical troubleshooting, the Website and relevant service providers may process IP addresses, access times and other necessary security information.

No Website, email or digital-storage system can be guaranteed to be completely free from security risks.

If a privacy breach has caused or is likely to cause serious harm and meets the notification requirements of the Privacy Act 2020, we will notify the Privacy Commissioner and, where required, affected individuals in accordance with applicable law.

7. Public Comments

Comments you voluntarily publish, together with the name you choose to display, may be visible to anyone visiting the Website.

Please do not publish addresses, telephone numbers, private email addresses, identity-document information, financial information, health information or other sensitive personal information unless you intend it to be public.

For privacy, harmful digital communications or other concerns relating to a particular comment, please refer to the Website’s Complaints & Corrections policy.

8. Third-Party Links and Embedded Content

The Website may contain links to government websites, social-media platforms and other third-party websites, as well as some third-party embedded media.

If you choose to visit a third-party website or service, subsequent information handling is governed by that third party’s own privacy policy and terms.

Some articles may contain third-party embedded content such as YouTube videos. Loading or interacting with that content may cause your browser to connect to the relevant third-party service.

The Website does not control how third parties independently collect or handle information.

9. Advertising and Tracking

The Website currently does not use personalised advertising cookies, social-media advertising pixels or other advertising-network tracking tools.

If personalised advertising, advertising tracking or similar technologies are introduced in the future, this Privacy Statement will be updated accordingly.

10. Newsletters and Contact Forms

The Website currently does not operate an active newsletter subscription form or Website contact form.

Enquiries, submissions and related matters are primarily handled through the published email address.

If a newsletter, contact form or another feature that directly collects personal information is introduced, this Privacy Statement will be updated accordingly.

11. Access and Correction

Under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, you may request confirmation of whether personal information about you is held and may request access to that information.

You may also request correction if you believe information held about you is inaccurate, incomplete or misleading.

Access requests will be handled as soon as reasonably practicable. A decision on whether access will be provided will generally be made within 20 working days of receiving the request, subject to any extension permitted by law.
