Complaints & Corrections

Vision Times NZ is committed to the accuracy and fairness of its published content and to respecting the legitimate rights of readers and people affected by its reporting.

If you believe that a news report, article, image, video, comment or other material contains a material factual error or raises concerns relating to privacy, defamation, copyright, harmful digital communications or other legal rights, you are welcome to contact us.

1. Factual Errors and Corrections

Please provide, where possible, the relevant title, URL, specific information you believe is incorrect, the correct information, supporting reliable sources and your contact details.

Where a material factual error is confirmed, the Website may correct, update or clarify the content or add an appropriate correction note.

Minor changes that do not materially affect meaning may be made without a separate correction notice.

2. Fair Responses and Differing Views

Where reporting contains disputed factual allegations materially affecting an identifiable individual or organisation, the Website may consider relevant information or responses from the affected party.

A complaint does not require the Website to publish a response in full, make every requested amendment or remove an article.

The appropriate response will be determined having regard to the facts, public interest, news value, applicable law and reasonable editorial judgement.

3. Privacy, Defamation and Other Rights Complaints

Please identify the relevant content and URL, your relationship to it, why you believe there is a problem, relevant supporting information and the action you would like the Website to consider.

A complaint does not automatically result in removal.

Depending on the circumstances, an appropriate response may include correction, clarification, restriction of information, publication of a response, removal of specific material or leaving the original content unchanged.

4. Third-Party User Content and Harmful Digital Communications

The Website provides comments or other functions that allow third parties to post content directly. Such material may be subject to the New Zealand Harmful Digital Communications Act 2015 and other applicable laws.

A formal complaint relating to specific third-party content should provide, where applicable:

  • your name;
  • telephone number;
  • physical address;
  • email address;
  • the specific content complained about;
  • a URL or other information sufficient to locate the content;
  • why you believe the content is unlawful, or breaches one or more applicable communication principles and causes harm;
  • whether you consent to personal information identifying you being released to the author; and
  • any other relevant information.

Upon receiving a notice of complaint that meets the requirements of the Harmful Digital Communications Act 2015, the Website will follow the statutory process, including:

  • providing the author with notice as soon as practicable and no later than 48 hours after receiving the complaint, with identifying information about the complainant concealed where the complainant does not consent to disclosure;
  • allowing the author 48 hours after notification to submit a counter-notice;
  • where the author cannot be contacted after reasonable steps, removing or disabling the content as soon as practicable and no later than 48 hours after receiving the complaint;
  • removing or disabling the content as soon as practicable where the author submits a valid counter-notice consenting to removal;
  • where no valid counter-notice is received within the required timeframe, removing or disabling the content as soon as practicable and no later than 48 hours after notifying the author; and
  • where the author submits a valid counter-notice refusing consent to removal, leaving the content in place for the purposes of that statutory process and notifying the complainant. Identifying information about the author will be provided to the complainant only where the author consents.

This process applies to qualifying complaints concerning specific third-party user content.

Other Website content concerns may be handled under the other parts of this policy, relevant Website rules and applicable New Zealand law.

People affected by harmful digital communications may also seek assistance from Netsafe, the Approved Agency under the Harmful Digital Communications Act 2015.

Copyright owners or authorised representatives should provide their contact details, the relevant URL, identification of the copyrighted work, evidence or explanation of their rights and why they believe the use is infringing.

The Website will reasonably review sufficiently detailed notices in accordance with applicable New Zealand copyright law.

The Website may collect names, contact details, supporting documents and other personal information necessary to assess, process and record a complaint.

Where the Harmful Digital Communications Act 2015 applies, information relating to complainants and authors will be handled in accordance with the relevant statutory process.
