Submission Guidelines
Vision Times NZ welcomes submissions from readers, community members and writers from a wide range of backgrounds.
We welcome personal stories, community observations, practical experiences, cultural perspectives, public-interest topics and thoughtful commentary relating to life in New Zealand.
1. What We Welcome
Submissions may include practical New Zealand information, community and personal stories, immigration and settlement experiences, culture, education, travel, lifestyle, public issues, commentary and other original material with news, public-interest or human-interest value.
Publication is not guaranteed.
2. Accuracy and Verification
Contributors should take reasonable care to ensure submitted material is truthful and accurate and should distinguish facts, personal experience, speculation and opinion.
Where material refers to laws, policies, statistics or other verifiable information, reliable or primary sources should be supplied where reasonably available.
The Website may seek further verification or responses from relevant parties.
3. Originality, Copyright and Third-Party Material
Contributors must ensure that they created the material themselves or otherwise have the legal right to submit it.
Third-party text, photographs, video, graphics or other material must not be used without an appropriate lawful basis.
Attribution alone does not amount to copyright permission.
4. Copyright and Publication Licence
Where the contributor legally owns copyright in the work, that copyright remains with the contributor unless otherwise agreed in writing. Submission itself does not transfer copyright.
If a submission is accepted, the Website will confirm the publication arrangements by email or another durable written form.
Unless otherwise agreed, publication arrangements may include a non-exclusive licence permitting the Website, for journalistic publication and related promotional purposes, to:
- edit and publish the submission;
- display and archive it on visiontimes.co.nz;
- share or promote it through relevant social media and digital platforms;
- use the headline, reasonable excerpts, by-line and authorised images to promote the article; and
- make reasonable changes required for layout, language, headlines, SEO, social media and digital formatting.
The specific arrangement will be subject to the written confirmation made when the submission is accepted.
5. Editing and Publication
The Website may reasonably edit accepted submissions for accuracy, readability, structure, language, presentation and publication requirements.
Editing should not deliberately distort the contributor’s core position or intended meaning.
Material changes that could substantially affect the author’s meaning will, where reasonably practicable, be discussed with the contributor.
6. By-lines, Pen Names and Contributor Information
Contributors may use their real name or an agreed pen name.
The Website may request a contributor’s real name and valid contact details for editorial communication and verification.
Non-public contact details will not ordinarily be published without consent unless disclosure is otherwise required by law.
7. Images, Video and AI-Generated Material
Contributors must have the necessary rights or permission for images, video and other material supplied with a submission.
AI-generated or materially AI-altered visual material must be disclosed.
Substantial use of generative AI in written material should also be disclosed.
Contributors remain responsible for the accuracy of facts, quotations, sources and final content.
8. Privacy, Reputation and Sensitive Material
Contributors should respect the privacy, reputation and legal rights of others.
Particular care should be taken with children, criminal allegations, health information, family disputes, trauma and other sensitive topics.
Confidential material or sources should be clearly identified as such when submitted.
9. Opinion, Commercial Interests and Conflicts of Interest
Opinion pieces may express personal views, but material facts should remain reasonably accurate.
Relevant financial, employment, family, organisational or other conflicts of interest should be disclosed.
Undisclosed advertising or paid promotion presented as ordinary reader content is not accepted.
10. Payment and Contributor Relationship
Unless otherwise agreed in writing, ordinary reader contributions are generally voluntary and unpaid.
Payment or another form of acknowledgement may be agreed in particular circumstances.
Submission, acceptance or publication alone does not necessarily create an employment, agency, partnership or continuing professional relationship.
The true nature of any relationship remains subject to the actual arrangements between the parties and applicable New Zealand law.
11. Rejection, Removal and Corrections
The Website may decline submissions that do not meet editorial, legal or content requirements.
Published material may be corrected, clarified, restricted or removed where appropriate because of material error, copyright issues, legal concerns, undisclosed conflicts or other serious issues.
12. Personal Information
The Website may collect a contributor’s name, email address, telephone number, biography, submission, supporting materials and other information voluntarily provided for the purposes of communication, verification, editing and publication.
Such information will be handled in accordance with applicable New Zealand privacy law.
13. How to Submit
Please send submissions to:
Email: infonz@visiontimes.com
Where possible, include the proposed title, full text, author name or preferred pen name, contact details, relevant sources, images and licensing information, previous publication information and any conflicts of interest or confidentiality issues.
By submitting material, contributors confirm that they have the legal right to submit it.
If the submission is accepted, the Website will separately confirm the publication and licensing arrangements.
